Siano's DAB Chip Becomes the First Chinese-Designed Automotive Digital Radio Chip to Pass CAERI CNAS Certification

Recently, the automotive DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) chip independently designed by Siano (Nanjing) Technology Co., Ltd. (synSIANO) — with fully domestic intellectual property and IP — successfully obtained authoritative certification from the China Automotive Engineering Research Institute (CAERI), and the end-product equipped with the chip received a CNAS-accredited test report.

This milestone marks the official debut of China's first automotive DAB chip and DAB multimedia middleware protocol stack with fully independent intellectual property, a fully domestic supply chain, and proven international commercial capability — breaking the long-standing dominance of European and American companies in the automotive digital broadcasting chip field, and laying a core foundation for Chinese vehicles going global and for China's competitiveness in the global wireless broadcast chip market.

The automotive DAB chip is a core RF reception chip for in-vehicle multimedia and emergency broadcasting system. It is a legally mandated component for vehicles in Europe and the Middle East — a field long dominated by European and American manufacturers. By overcoming key technical barriers in RF architecture design, automotive-grade reliability, high-speed mobile reception, and complex in-vehicle electromagnetic environments, Siano has launched China's first commercially available automotive DAB chip, the SMS2160, with performance on par with leading international products. Siano previously established a strategic partnership with Hirschmann Car Communication, the renowned German automotive Tier 1 supplier. SMS2160-based products have been mass-produced and deployed at the scale of millions of units across multiple European vehicle brands, including the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W221) and E-Class (W212), and the BMW 7 Series (F01/F02, G11/G12).

About the SMS2160 Turnkey Solution

In this certification, the SMS2160 was integrated into a domestically produced automotive multimedia terminal. The certification was conducted strictly in accordance with ETSI international standards, covering eight major test categories and dozens of rigorous test items, including RF sensitivity, adjacent-channel selectivity, audio performance, automotive environmental stability, and emergency warning broadcast compatibility. The results once again confirm that all key specifications of the Siano SMS2160 meet the required standards, with multiple performance metrics exceeding industry benchmarks — fully satisfying automotive DAB reception requirements for overseas markets including Europe, the Middle East, and Australia. Of greater strategic significance, the fully self-developed DAB multimedia player and DAB middleware protocol stack carried on the domestically produced automotive multimedia terminal fully comply with the complete set of ETSI DAB international standards, enabling Siano to offer Chinese automotive brands and Tier 1 suppliers a one-stop, turnkey DAB solution.
